Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former speaker of the national assembly, Asad Qaiser, was arrested from Islamabad on Friday.
As per the details garnered, the PTI leader was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from his residence. He is accused of corruption in the purchase of medical equipment for Gaju Khan Medical College, Swabi.
Asad Qaiser was shifted to an unknown location after his arrest.
It should be noted that the former speaker of the National Assembly resigned from his post to save the seat of former prime minister Imran Khan after the no confidence motion was filed by the opposition.
An illegal recruitment case in the education department has been filed against Asad Qaiser, with additional individuals implicated, including former provincial minister Shahram Tarkai, former chief minister's advisor Abdul Karim Khan, and a deputy EDO.
The case was registered at the Swabi police station based on a complaint from the Swabi anti-corruption officer.
Anti-Corruption Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alleges that political interference during the PTI era resulted in recruitments being made without merit, and irregularities were discovered upon inspecting the Education Department's records.
During the same period, an Anti-Corruption spokesperson revealed that illegal recruitments had cost the national treasury approximately 17.8 million rupees.
