The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar in the case of forced disappearance of Baloch students.
The court had taken up the case of implementation on the force disappearance commission’s suggestions. It also expressed dissatisfaction over the report of the ministerial committee on the issue.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani remarked that they were sitting in Islamabad and talking about the rights of Balochistan, questioning what could be a bigger insult than this that the people of this country were going missing. “It's all a joke,” he added.
The assistant attorney general submitted a one-page report of the meeting of the ministerial committee, which was returned by Justice Kayani. He called the report shameful for the court.
The judge further remarked that both the prime minister and the interior minister belonged to Balochistan and should have realised it was a matter of Baloch students. The Islamabad High Court then summoned the prime minister on November 29.
The court also summoned the interior minister, defense minister, and interior secretary to appear. When the additional attorney general pleaded not to summon the PM and the ministers, Justice Kayani said he was giving seven days to present the 55 missing Baloch students as per the commission's recommendations; otherwise, the prime minister will have to appear.
