The Punjab government has introduced significant alterations to the benefits provided to the families of government employees in the unfortunate event of their death during service.
In a recent notification released by the Punjab Finance Department on December 7, certain adjustments in the compensation structure and job assistance have been outlined. Notably, the revised provisions specify that in the event of a government employee's demise during their service tenure, the widow or children will no longer be offered employment opportunities.
Regarding financial assistance, substantial increments have been introduced in the compensation amounts allocated to the families of deceased government employees across different pay scales. The updated compensation figures are as follows:
- Families of scale 1 to 4 employees will receive Rs 5 million, increased from the previous amount of Rs 1.6 million.
- For scale 5 to 10 employees, the compensation has been raised to Rs 7.5 million, previously set at Rs 1.9 million.
- Families of scale 11 to 15 employees will now receive Rs 10 million, compared to the earlier amount of Rs 2.2 million.
- Widows and children of scale 16 and 17 employees will be entitled to Rs 10.5 million, up from the previous Rs 2.5 million.
- For scale 18 and 19 employees, the compensation has been raised to Rs 20 million, previously set at Rs 3.4 million.
Furthermore, the notification highlights a significant increase in the compensation amount for employees at scale 20 and above. In the case of the unfortunate demise of an employee falling under scale 20 or higher during their service, the family will now receive Rs 20 million, a notable increase from the earlier Rs 4 million compensation.
These amendments aim to provide enhanced financial support to the families of deceased government employees, adjusting the compensation amounts according to the pay scale of the employee, thus ensuring more substantial assistance during these distressing times.
