The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is gearing up for rigorous scrutiny ahead of the general elections, aiming to enhance the vetting process for candidates.
Plans have been put forth to introduce a stringent online verification system for Returning Officers, with collaboration from key institutions like the State Bank, FBR, FIA, and NAB. Representatives from these entities are set to join the Commission’s scrutiny committee, ensuring comprehensive assessments.
Sources reveal that the scrutiny committee will delve deep into the candidates’ backgrounds, utilizing ID card numbers to obtain family tree data through NADRA.
The involvement of State Bank, FBR, FIA, and NAB representatives will further enrich this evaluation, providing detailed reports on individual candidates to the electoral watchdog.
Upon receiving these comprehensive candidate profiles, the scrutiny committee will disseminate the details to the Returning Officers.
It will be the responsibility of the Returning Officers to make informed decisions regarding the eligibility of candidates to participate in the upcoming elections based on this robust scrutiny process.
