Two members of BJP's IT cell in Varanasi were among three people arrested by Indian Police and identified as the alleged perpetrators of the gangrape of a 20-year-old student of Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) on campus.
The three young men have confessed to the crime, including disrobing and filming the survivor at gunpoint, and could be charged under the National Security Act and the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, Kashi DCP R S Gautam said.
"After 60 days, the arrests of the goons revealed that the goons were special workers of the Benares technical cell of the BJP," the opposition parties said.
“Had it been before the Modi government, the vice-chancellor and the head of the B.Tech department would have been sacked by now,” Hindustan Times commented on the gangrape.
