The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has announced its support for the Pakistan Army following the military strikes on Iran in response to Tehran’s violation of Pakistan’s airspace.
In a communiqué issued on Saturday after the SCBA Executive Committee’s meeting, the association said it condemned Iran's violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and appreciated the retaliatory response of the armed forces.
“The legal community of Pakistan stands with the armed forces,” the statement said.
The SCBA expressed concern over the negative campaign against Supreme Court judges and judiciary. It said that freedom of expression was everyone's right, but there should be limits.
Campaigning against the judiciary under the guise of freedom of expression was unacceptable, the statement said, and encouraged open discussion of judicial decisions.
The SCBA also said that critical views on judicial decisions were also allowed, but targeting judges and their families based on those decisions was intolerable.
The Supreme Court bar has emphasized on the need for responsible expression of opinion. It has also called for action against those spreading negative propaganda.
The Supreme Court bar condemned the incident of police firing on lawyers in Islamabad court and demanded an inquiry into the incident from high-ranking police officials.
