Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has said that the purpose of social media and propaganda is to spread uncertainty, chaos and despair, adding that it is imperative to research about the news being shared on social media.
The COAS said without research and positive thinking, a society remains embroiled in chaos. The army chief made these comments during his historic address at the Pakistan National Youth Conference at Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Gen Munir said he was greatly pleased to address the future builders of Pakistan. He further said that the purpose of creating Pakistan was that its religion, culture, and civilization were different from those of the Hindus in all respects, instead of the citizens adopting Western civilization and culture.
“The youth should have immense confidence in their country, nation, culture, civilization and themselves,” the army chief stressed, adding that the youth of Pakistan should be sure that they are the children of a great homeland and nation.
Gen Munir said the youth of Pakistan were the guardians of the bright traditions of this nation and country, and an interpretation of the dreams of Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
He also insisted that the Pakistan Army could fight against terrorists, but the cooperation of the entire nation was necessary against terrorism. He highlighted that the purpose of social media and propaganda was to spread uncertainty, chaos, and despair.
"Researching the news on social media is critical. Without research and positive thinking, a society remains in chaos,” the army chief remarked.
He then quoted a verse from the Holy Quran that roughly translated to mean that if a transgressor brought them news, it should be confirmed.
He then likened the establishment of Pakistan to that of the state of Madina, saying both were founded on the basis of the Kalima Tayyaba. “God has blessed Pakistan with abundant mineral resources, agriculture and young manpower,” he added.
Gen Munir said Pakistan’s forces were always ready to tackle any kind of threat and conspiracy. “We exist because Pakistan exists. If there is no Pakistan then we are nothing,” he added.
He stressed that Pakistan will not compromise on its sovereignty. “We need to have full faith in the bright future of Pakistan and maintain the legacy of our ancestors,” he added.
During the speech, the students also raised slogans of “Pakistan Army Zindabad”, “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad”.
