Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Gohar vehemently on Wednesday criticised the recent decision by the accountability court to sentence PTI founder and his wife Bushra Bibi to 14 years in the Toshakhana case.
Gohar, expressing his dismay, claims that such a harsh judgment has never been witnessed before in the history of the accountability court.
Addressing the media, Barrister Gohar asserted that the court's decision is not only unprecedented but also seemingly driven by political motives. He alleges that the punishments are a means to exert pressure on the PTI founder and serve the interests of a particular leader.
Gohar raised concerns about the lack of opportunity for cross-examination in the presence of legal representation during the trial, emphasizing that the fundamental right to present a defense was denied.
"I will file a petition in the High Court against the sentence," declared Barrister Gohar, firmly standing against what he perceives as an unjust verdict.
He asserted that Bushra Bibi has no connection to the Tosha Khana case, emphasizing that she did not personally accept any gifts. Gohar believes that the decision infringes upon their right to a fair defense and expressed hope that the Supreme Court will rectify the perceived injustice.
In an attempt to reassure PTI supporters, Gohar urged them to remain calm and resilient, assuring that this punishment is temporary. He believes that political revenge is at play, aiming to dishearten voters and supporters.
Despite these challenges, Barrister Gohar remains optimistic that justice will prevail through the electoral process, urging PTI members to participate fully in upcoming elections.
