The Islamabad High Court found itself at the centre of attention as legal battles ensued over the election results, particularly in NA-48 Islamabad.
The victory of independent candidate Raja Khurram Nawaz has been challenged by PTI-backed candidate Ali Bukhari seeking halting of the election commission's notification regarding NA-48.
Ali Bukhari's application sought to annul the ECP's notification, alleging that their concerns were disregarded prior to the issuance of the notification. Expressing dissatisfaction with the process, Bukhari called for legal action against all involved parties, including the returning officer (RO).
Bukhari alleged that the election commission issued a stay at 11pm and issued a notification at 1am.
Meanwhile, in another election-related development, the ECP stopped the results of NA-70 and PP-45 in Sialkot and sought reports from the RO. With independent candidates emerging victorious in both seats according to Form 45, their lawyers claimed. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when the district police officer (DPO) arrested both independent candidates while Form 47 was being prepared, leaving their lawyers stunned.
The lawyers also claimed that the results in these constituencies were issued in the absence of the contesting candidates. The chief election commissioner, along with Member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Akramullah, presided over the proceedings.
