As the possibility looms that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) may not secure enough seats to form the government in the federation, the party has begun deliberating on potential candidates for the role of opposition leader.
Among those being considered are Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Sher Afzal Marwat, whose names have emerged as frontrunners within PTI circles.
Notably, Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI Founder Imran Khan, has reportedly taken an active interest in promoting Sher Afzal Marwat as a contender for the opposition leader position. Aleema Khan's involvement has added weight to Marwat's candidacy within the party ranks.
While discussions continue within the PTI regarding the selection process for the opposition leader, it is emphasized that the final decision rests with Imran Khan. This underscores the importance of PTI's leadership in determining the direction and strategy of the party in the event that they are not able to secure a majority in the upcoming elections.
The consideration of opposition leader candidates reflects PTI's commitment to maintaining a strong and effective presence within the political landscape, regardless of their position in government. As the political landscape evolves, PTI remains focused on representing the interests of its constituents and contributing to the democratic process.
Meanwhile, the PTI announced on Tuesday that it will form the government in the Centre and Punjab with the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM).
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hassan said: "We will form the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa along with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI). On the instructions of the PTI founder, we will form the government in the two provinces [Punjab, KP]."
Moreover, the party nominated Ali Amin Gandapur as the chief minister candidate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Gandapur is a former federal minister and MNA.
PTI Founder Imran Khan said during an informal conversation with journalists during the hearing of the case in Adiala Jail that Ali Amin has been nominated for Chief Minister KP and vowed that there will be no talks with PML-N, PPP, and MQM.
