Ahmar Rashid Bhatti, a successful independent candidate supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from PP-165 constituency, has been detained by the police.
Bhatti, who emerged victorious in the Punjab Assembly seat of Lahore, was apprehended in the Township area of Lahore on charges related to a significant criminal case.
According to police reports, Bhatti is a named accused in the central case of May 9 violence. The arrest was made based on video evidence implicating Bhatti in an attack on Jinnah House (Corps Commander House, Lahore).
The incident in question revolves around an attack on Jinnah House, which occurred following the arrest of PTI Founder Imran Khan. The police allege that Bhatti led a group involved in the attack, leading to his involvement in the case.
Bhatti's arrest has drawn attention to the intersection of politics and law enforcement, particularly given his affiliation with PTI. Despite his success in the elections with PTI's backing, Bhatti now finds himself entangled in legal proceedings linked to the Jinnah House incident.
PTI, which had thrown its support behind Bhatti as an independent candidate, now faces scrutiny over its association with individuals potentially involved in criminal activities. The arrest underscores the complexities surrounding political alliances and the challenges of maintaining integrity within the political sphere.
