The Supreme Court has scheduled for hearing a petition seeking to declare the February 8 general elections null and void.
The hearing, to be conducted by a three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, is set for February 19. Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Musarrat Hilali will also be on the bench, overseeing the proceedings.
The petition, filed by Brig (retd) Ali Khan, alleges that pre-poll rigging and delays in the announcement of election results posed a significant threat to democratic principles.
The petitioner argued that in light of these concerns, the formation of a government following the February 8 elections should be halted. Instead, Khan proposes that the Supreme Court order a fresh election under its supervision.
The upcoming hearing is anticipated to address these contentious issues, as the court deliberates on the validity of the February 8 elections and the appropriate course of action to uphold democratic integrity. The outcome of the hearing could have far-reaching implications for the political landscape in the country, as well as for the electoral process itself.
Given the significance of the matter, all eyes will be on the Supreme Court as it convenes to consider the petition and determine the next steps in this legal saga.
