The Rawalpindi commissioner's revelation of a suicide attempt amidst accusations of electoral fraud has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, triggering a flurry of reactions from various political factions.
Reacting to the allegations and statements, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said even if the commissioner did aid rigging, he could not be given a death sentence. "There is no law in Pakistan that allows public hanging," he remarked.
A person who tries to commit suicide is a victim of mental stress, he said, adding that these were attempts to make the elections controversial. “First of all, Liaquat Chattha should be admitted to a hospital,” he asserted.
Sanaullah claimed that these allegations were not the reason for not taking over the government, disclosing that there was a strong opinion within the PML-N that they should not form the government and take any burden on their shoulders.
“Nawaz Sharif has not taken any decision about this yet. The PML-N is ready to talk to everyone,” Rana Sana stressed, adding that only a strong government could bring political stability to the country.
Moreover, JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah said party leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman also said that these elections were rigged and the winning candidates were made to lose, and vice versa.
"The winners are more worried than the losers," he said further, adding that therefore, no one was ready to become the prime minister. He then urged the chief justice of Pakistan to nullify the February 8 elections.
“Whatever the Rawalpindi commissioner said was the truth. If the decision was made before the election, what was the need for the election?” he questioned.
PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi said his party also had reservations over the elections and demanded the government conduct an immediate investigation.
