The flour price in Pakistan is anticipated to decrease in the coming days as three ships carrying a total of 140,000 tons of wheat from Russia and Bulgaria anchored at Port Qasim on Wednesday.
The import of wheat from Russia and Bulgaria could be a sigh of relief as the government has been struggling to meet the country's demand for the staple food. Hence, the price of flour in Pakistan has gone up drastically during the past few months.
Pakistan is facing wheat shortage due to a number of factors including floods in Sindh which is a major wheat-producing region, hoarding for profiteering and inaction of government.
The wheat is being imported by private companies to meet the country's growing demand for the staple food.
As soon as the wheat arrived, the prices of the commodity in the market started falling.
How low it can go?
The price of the commodity in markets across the country decreased by Rs7 to around Rs118 per kilogram (kg), according to wholesale dealers.
Due to the import, the price of flour in retail is expected to decrease by Rs10 per kg.
