In response to perceived security threats, authorities have extraordinarily beefed up security measures around Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
Moreover, checkpoints have been erected on Adiala Road, adjacent to the jail, as part of efforts to fortify the perimeter and enhance surveillance capabilities. Additionally, the installation of barbed wire fencing outside the jail premises has commenced, aimed at further fortifying the facility's defences and deterring unauthorized access.
Additional police forces have been deployed both outside the jail and in the surrounding areas. Blockades have been strategically positioned on Adiala Road, adjacent to the jail, while banners prohibiting meetings with prisoners have been prominently displayed at the main gate.
The administration is swiftly progressing with the barbed wire fencing work along the road adjacent to Adiala Jail, with the aim of completing the task expediently to reinforce perimeter security. Stringent restrictions have been imposed, with unauthorized individuals and vehicles barred from roaming outside the jail premises, and only authorized personnel permitted entry.
Moreover, in a measure aimed at managing media presence while maintaining security protocols, media satellite vehicles will be permitted to park at a designated location, situated approximately two kilometres away from Adiala Jail, ensuring coverage while minimizing potential security risks.
These measures were taken as the 190 million pound NAB reference against PTI Founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi was underway inside. Bushra Bibi was taken from Bani Gala sub-jail to the Adiala Jail where accountability court Judge Nasir Javed Rana was conducting the hearing.
Bushra Bibi's two daughters Mehrunnisa and Mubashira also reached Adiala Jail to meet their mother. Imran Khan's relatives and lawyers are also present in Adiala Jail, including Umair Niazi, Usman Riaz, Khalid Yousuf and Barrister Ali Zafar.
On the other hand, a mock emergency drill was to be conducted at the prison, which was postponed, sources said.
