Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conferred on Tuesday a reward of Rs2.5 millionn upon Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem for clinching the silver medal at the World Athletics Championship 2023.
In a ceremony held in Islamabad,the premier commended Nadeem's remarkable achievement, citing his unwavering dedication and hard work as exemplary traits for the nation's youth.
Acknowledging the challenges faced due to limited resources, PM lauded Nadeem's stellar performance, which brought immense pride to the nation.
"Despite facing obstacles, you have showcased exceptional talent on the global stage, bringing honor to Pakistan," stated the premier.
During their meeting, PM Shehbaz emphasised the pivotal role of athletes like Arshad Nadeem in elevating sports, particularly javelin throw, in the country.
He reiterated the government's commitment to bolstering all sports disciplines, including athletics, and underscored the importance of providing top-notch sports facilities to the youth across Pakistan.
Highlighting the government's initiatives, the PM affirmed that the establishment of sports fields and state-of-the-art facilities for athletes remains a priority. "Our aim is to foster a culture of sports in every corner of Pakistan, tapping into the immense talent that exists within our nation," he added.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the expeditious completion of a sports complex in Arshad Nadeem's native area, underscoring the government's focus on nurturing sporting talent at the grassroots level.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecom Shaza Fatima, Member of National Assembly Rumina Khurshid Alam, and Member of Punjab Assembly Rana Mashhood, among others.
