Tragedy struck in Balochistan's Harnai district as a mine collapsed following an explosion, leaving eighteen miners trapped underground.
Rescue efforts were swiftly initiated to free the trapped miners from the perilous depths.
Chief Inspector Mines Balochistan, Abdul Ghani, revealed that the mine collapse occurred in the Zard Alu area of Harnai, initially trapping ten miners due to gas accumulation.
Presently, 18 miners remain trapped inside the mine, prompting the dispatch of two rescue teams from Shahrigh and Quetta to aid in the rescue mission. Despite concerted efforts, the trapped miners have yet to be evacuated.
The incident sheds light on the precarious working conditions prevailing in Balochistan's coal mines, where approximately 100,000 workers labor amidst inadequate safety measures.
With over 3000 coal mines in operation, miners continually face life-threatening risks. Regrettably, such accidents claim the lives of more than a 100 miners annually, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced safety protocols and vigilance in the mining sector.
