Defense Minister Khawaja Asif issued a stern warning to the Taliban government, stating that if they continue their attacks, Pakistan will be compelled to close their trade corridor.
Speaking on Thursday, he highlighted the significance of maintaining peace between the two nations.
He emphasized that back in February 2023, he urged the Taliban to refrain from hindering Kabul's progress due to the assistance provided by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during the 20-year conflict.
Expressing concern over the Taliban government's failure to curb attacks on Pakistan, Asif underscored the detrimental role played by the outlawed TTP.
Despite efforts to foster peaceful relations, he lamented Afghanistan's reluctance to address the issue of TTP militants operating within its borders.
As tensions escalate, Asif questioned the rationale behind providing a trade corridor to a nation that views Pakistan as an adversary. He emphasized that Pakistan seeks amicable relations with Afghanistan but cannot overlook the security threats posed by militant groups.
In the face of continued aggression, Asif asserted that Pakistan reserves the right to safeguard its interests, including the option to close the trade corridor.
