A meeting of the Irsa advisory committee has been convened on Tuesday (tomorrow) on the issue of water distribution for the Kharif season.
The advisory committee meeting will estimate the availability and distribution of water in the rivers. The water allocation formula will be finalized in the Kharif season. The four provincial ministers of irrigation, WAPDA, and Meteorological Department officials will participate in the meeting.
According to the sources, water shortage will be more than 20% in summer due to less rain. The water crisis is expected to intensify in June.
The water storage in Tarbela dam is 3 lakh acre feet and in Mangala is 1 lakh acre feet. The water in the rivers is seventy-two thousand cusecs while the discharge of water from the dams is ninety-five thousand cusecs.
Despite the temperature rise, the flow of water in river Chenab is very low while at Marala, the flow of water is 14000 cusecs.
Sources claimed the meeting will assess the availability and distribution of water in rivers.
The water allocation formula will be finalized in the competitive season.
