Lebanon’s Hezbollah group has announced that it launched "dozens of Katyusha rockets" at Israeli artillery positions on Friday. The attack was reportedly in retaliation to Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon.
According to media reports, Hezbollah, a close ally of Hamas, has been engaged in near-daily cross-border exchanges with the Israeli army since October 7, when Hamas initiated hostilities by attacking southern Israel, leading to a conflict in Gaza.
According to Hezbollah, its fighters targeted “enemy artillery positions” with a barrage of Katyusha rockets in response to Israeli attacks on southern Lebanese villages and civilian homes.
The Israeli military confirmed the rocket launches, stating that approximately 40 rockets were detected crossing from Lebanese territory, some of which were intercepted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Earlier, Israeli forces intercepted two Hezbollah attack drones originating from Lebanon.
Lebanon's National News Agency reported Israeli airstrikes on several villages near the border.
The ongoing violence has resulted in significant casualties, with at least 363 deaths reported in Lebanon, including Hezbollah fighters and civilians. In Israel, the military has confirmed the deaths of 10 soldiers and eight civilians.
The escalating conflict has forced tens of thousands of civilians to flee their homes on both sides of the border.
