Pakistan has dispatched 400 tonnes of essential humanitarian assistance to Gaza, marking the eighth tranche of aid extended since the onset of the recent conflict on October 7, 2023.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar took to social media platform X to announce the dispatch, underscoring Pakistan's unwavering commitment to addressing the pressing humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people amidst the ongoing crisis. The aid package comprises a range of crucial supplies including winterised tents, tarpaulins, blankets, medicines, and food provisions.
Minister Dar emphasized that the shipment is scheduled to be received by the Pakistani Ambassador to Egypt at Port Said, from where it will be transferred to the Egyptian Red Crescent for further distribution to the residents of Gaza. This initiative reflects Pakistan's steadfast commitment to standing by the Palestinian people during their time of need.
The dispatch of humanitarian aid comes in the wake of Pakistan's vocal condemnation of Israeli atrocities and its persistent advocacy for the rights of Palestinians on the international stage. Recently, Pakistan expressed deep disappointment over the United States' decision to veto a draft resolution seeking Palestine's full membership in the United Nations (UN), as well as the failure of the UN Security Council to reach a consensus on the matter.
Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch reiterated Pakistan's stance, affirming that the time has come for the admission of Palestine to the UN as a full member. She emphasized that such a move would rectify the historic injustices endured by Palestinians for over seven decades and affirm their right to self-determination.
Furthermore, discussions on the Palestinian issue are expected to feature prominently at the upcoming summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Gambia. During a recent visit to Islamabad, a high-powered Saudi delegation, including Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, joined Pakistani authorities in calling for de-escalation, an immediate ceasefire, and the lifting of the siege in Gaza.
Despite persistent challenges and obstacles, Pakistan remains steadfast in its support for the Palestinian cause, reaffirming its commitment to alleviating the suffering of the people of Gaza and advocating for their rights on the global stage.
