In a group C clash at Tarouba, the West Indies emerged victorious over New Zealand, clinching a 13-run win that knocked the Kiwis out of the T20 World Cup 2024.
This victory, their third consecutive win, ensured the co-hosts a place in the Super 8s, a significant achievement after missing out on the main round in the previous edition held in Australia.
Sherfane Rutherford was the star of the match, delivering an extraordinary performance with the bat. His unbeaten 68 off 39 balls, featuring six sixes and two fours, lifted the West Indies from a precarious 76 for 7 in 12.3 overs to a defendable total of 149 for 9.

The West Indies bowlers then stepped up to restrict New Zealand to 136 for 9 in 19 overs. Gudakesh Motie, with his left-arm spin, delivered an impressive spell, claiming 3 wickets for 25 runs.
However, it was pacer Alzarri Joseph who truly shone, dismantling the New Zealand batting lineup with figures of 4 for 19.
Despite a valiant effort from Glenn Phillips, who scored a quick 40 off 33 balls, New Zealand fell short of the target, sealing their exit from the tournament.
