tourism Tasmania is offering a series of unique, one-day "odd jobs" designed to provide an unforgettable experience of the island's diverse attractions. From oyster tasting to stargazing, the initiative promises both fun and a temporary escape from the daily grind.
Tasmania is offering people the opportunity to swap the "daily grind" of their job for an unusual temporary role during the off-season.
As per BCC report, paranormal investigator, wombat walker and stargazer are among the 10 jobs being advertised.
While the positions are unpaid, successful applicants will have all their expenses - including travel, food and hotels - covered by the Tasmanian tourist board. The paranormal investigator role is voluntary and just for one day, Tourism Tasmania said.
It is open to those with an interest in "history and mystery" and involves picking up on paranormal activity using "the latest ghost-hunting equipment" at Willow Court, one of Australia's oldest asylums.
Oyster Organiser
One of the most enticing roles is that of an "oyster organiser." This job involves sorting, cleaning, and categorizing freshly harvested oysters from the picturesque Great Oyster Bay. An added perk is the opportunity to taste-test the oysters, which Tourism Tasmania humorously assures is "purely for quality control."
Puffer Nut
Train enthusiasts can apply for the role of a "puffer nut." This job allows the lucky applicant to join the crew of the historic Lynchford Express steam train as it journeys along Tasmania's scenic west coast. It's a dream come true for those passionate about steam locomotives and breathtaking landscapes.
Stargazing with the Astronomical Society
For those captivated by the night sky, the chance to join Tasmania's Astronomical Society for an evening of stargazing is a unique opportunity. Participants will observe celestial wonders, guided by knowledgeable society members.
Other Odd Jobs
Additional roles include truffle hunting, becoming a "wine whisperer," and walking wombats on their morning waddle. Each job is tailored to highlight Tasmania's unique natural and cultural heritage.
Tourism Impact and Eligibility
