Two separate cases were filed against senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders in Rawalpindi and Islamabad for organizing a rally in support of PTI Founder Imran Khan. Additionally, a notification for the 15-day detention of four PTI leaders was also issued.
A case was registered against a PTI MPA and other workers at the Saddar Bairuni police station of Rawalpindi on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Imtiaz Hussain. Sections three and six of the Punjab Sound System Regulation Act 2015 have been added to the case.
As per the text of the FIR, the suspects gathered a large crowd in Jorian Chowk in violation of the law and delivered speeches through loudspeakers. They blocked the road and prevented the movement of citizens. Khawar Shehzad and Allah Deen engaged in a scuffle with Constable Shehzad and tore his uniform, it alleged, adding that suspect Chaudhry Nazir delivered a provocative speech.
The police arrested Chaudhry Nazir, Khawar Shahzad, and Allah Deen, from the spot, while 25 individuals, including Usman Tiger, Mehtab, Raja Ishtiaq, and Raja Haider Mehdi, were able to flee from the spot.
The other case was filed at Islamabad's Bani Gala police station on the complaint of SHO Nawazish Ali. As per the case, approximately 35 individuals took out a motorcycle rally from a private housing society. They were led by PTI leaders Shoaib Shaheen, Amir Mughal, and Alamgir Khan.
The case has been registered under nine provisions, including terrorism, over an alleged violation of Section 144 and provisions regarding assault on police personnel. According to the case, protesters pelted stones at the official vehicle, which broke its windows. Later, 11 protesters were arrested, while others fled.
Other cases across country
Multiple cases have been registered against PTI supporters and leaders across various cities for organizing rallies and protests in favour of the release of PTI Founder Imran Khan. The actions come as authorities enforce restrictions under various legal provisions, including Section 144.
Burewala
Model Town Police arrested three PTI workers following a rally in support of Imran Khan. A case has been filed against 12 named individuals and 25 unidentified workers under Section 16 MPO and other provisions. Many PTI officials and workers are reportedly in hiding to avoid arrest.
Kot Addu
A protest rally led to the arrest of a PTI worker after a case was filed against a police constable. The police have registered a case against 49 individuals, including 39 nominated workers, under various provisions. The FIR alleges that the suspects took thousands of rupees and service cards from the pocket of a police constable.
Ahmedpur East
Following a PTI protest, police action resulted in two cases being filed against 28 individuals, with nine arrests. The cases were registered at Chanigoth and City police stations, citing violations of Section 144.
Kalabagh
In Dawoodkhel police station, a case has been filed against 32 PTI activists, including MNA Jamal Ahsan Khan, Barrister Umair Khan Niazi, and MPA Aminullah Khan, for participating in a rally in the area. The charges include violations of the Sound System Act and making anti-government speeches.
Mianwali
A case has been registered against participants of a PTI rally in Daudkhel, including MNA Jamal Ahsan Khan and 32 activists. The FIR lists eight provisions, including violations of the Sound System Act and anti-government speeches.
Jhang
An FIR has been filed against MNA Sheikh Waqas Akram and others for organizing a protest meeting and rally. The FIR also names Faisal Kalwana, Usman, Faizan, Faisal Nazir, and Shahid Nazir. No arrests have been reported yet.
Chichawatni
A case has been filed against PTI workers for violating Section 144 by holding a rally on Railway Road in front of Rai House. Eleven PTI workers have been named in the case.
Chiniot
PTI leaders, including Mehr Khalid, District General Secretary, and District President Women's Wing Aqsi Hayat Lali, have been named in a case registered under 16 MPO, Section 183, and 341 of the Penal Code. The case alleges that PTI leaders and workers blocked Chiniot Jhang Road during a protest and raised slogans against the government.
Gojra
A case has been registered against MNA Osama Hamza, MPA Asad Zaman Cheema, and MPA Ahsan Ehsan, along with 28 named and 12 unknown individuals, for violating Section 144 by holding a rally. Several lawyers, including Gujra Advocate Waqas Khan Mahota, have also been named in the FIR.
Faisalabad
A case has been registered against 30 people, including local PTI leaders, for holding a rally and assembly in violation of Section 144. The accused gathered on Sea Road and attempted to resist arrest, according to police.
On the other hand, detention orders have been issued for four PTI leaders for 15 days. Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema issued the detention orders under 3 MPO for Shehryar Riaz, Col (retd) Ajmal Sabir, Chaudhry Ameer Afzal and Taimur Masood Akbar.
The order stated that the PTI leaders be arrested and detained in Adiala Jail.
