The government is preparing to impose an additional burden on electricity consumers with a proposed increase in electricity prices.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a hike of Rs 3.41 per unit.
NEPRA is scheduled to review and make a decision on this request during a hearing on Friday.
The CPPA’s request is based on the monthly fuel adjustment for May.
According to the CPPA, a total of 12.267 billion units of electricity were generated last month, with a production cost of Rs 9.12 per unit. The proposed increase in electricity prices is aimed at covering the rising production costs.
NEPRA will consider the request and decide on the potential increase after the hearing. If approved, this hike will further impact electricity consumers, adding to their financial burden.
