Sri Lankan authorities have arrested 137 Indian nationals in a major cybercrime operation across multiple cities. The arrests came following complaints of widespread online scams and fraud schemes.
The Criminal Investigation Department conducted raids in various locations, leading to the apprehension of suspects who had been operating fraudulent schemes targeting innocent citizens for an extended period.
During the raids, police seized 158 mobile phones, 16 laptops, and 60 desktop computers from the arrested individuals.
The crackdown was initiated after a victim reported being deceived by a WhatsApp group promising cash for social media interactions. Further investigation revealed a scheme that coerced victims into making deposits after initial payments.
This operation highlights the growing concern of cross-border cybercrimes and their impact on international relations.
