An Indian national residing in Singapore has been sentenced to 13 years in prison and 9 strokes of the cane for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. Raj Kumar Bala, who owned a bar in Singapore, was convicted of attacking the teenager who had come to his establishment seeking employment.
The incident occurred on July 8, 2024. Bala was found to have taken advantage of the girl's vulnerable position, subjecting her to physical abuse and sexual assault.
In addition to this case, Bala faces 22 other charges filed by five former employees. He is also under investigation for allegedly assaulting a girl under 16 years of age.
This sentencing comes amidst a series of criminal cases involving Indian nationals globally. Recently, two Indian citizens were arrested in the United States on corruption charges, while another, Bhushan Athale, was sentenced for harassing Sikhs.
