Karachi residents are enduring a blistering heatwave with partly cloudy and extreme humid conditions, as temperatures soared to 40 degrees Celsius, accompanied by high humidity levels of 53%, according to the Met Department.
The city's sea breeze, typically a source of relief, will remain suspended throughout the day, exacerbating the heat intensity. However, rain is likely in suburban areas.
"Karachiites are feeling the heat at nearly 50 degrees Celsius due to the humid weather conditions," stated the Meteorological Department, cautioning residents to take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses. It said the intensity of heat will be felt more due to the humid weather.
Meanwhile, across the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the weather was warm and partly cloudy. Bannu recorded the highest temperature in the province at 42 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists predict rains in some plains and northern areas of the province within the next 24 hours.
In Peshawar, the maximum temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius with a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius recorded in the past 24 hours. The humidity level soared to 49%, contributing to the discomfort felt by residents. The plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained hot and cloudy, with forecasts indicating possible rain showers accompanied by strong winds in areas of Malakand and Hazara divisions.
The Met Department advises the public to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, particularly in Karachi where the heatwave is expected to persist throughout the day.
