Suryakumar Yadav is set to assume the T20I captaincy until the 2026 T20 World Cup, as reported by Indian media on Tuesday.
According to details, the decision to appoint Suryakumar Yadav comes from the new head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar. Both believed that Yadav's leadership will provide long-term stability for the team.
Yadav has previously captained India in eight T20Is against Australia and South Africa last year, proving his capability.
Hardik Pandya remains available for the upcoming T20I matches against Sri Lanka this month, despite the leadership change. The decision was communicated to him earlier today, highlighting a strategic approach towards future success.
This vacancy in T20I leadership arose after Rohit Sharma retired from international cricket in the shortest format following India's triumphant World Cup campaign last month in the West Indies.
Recently, Shubman Gill had captained a second-string Indian team during the Zimbabwe series, leading them to victory in four out of five games, showcasing India's depth in leadership options.
