A Dalit man, Rohit Valmiki, was reportedly subjected to police brutality in Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred when Valmiki overtook a police vehicle. Despite filing a complaint, no action was taken.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, over 60,000 crimes against Dalit Hindus were reported in 2021. In the past 5 years, more than 150,000 hate crimes against lower caste Hindus have been reported.
NBC News reports a 66% increase in crimes against Dalit Hindus since the Modi government came to power. Between 2015 and 2020, there was a 45% increase in rape cases against Dalit women.
The National Crime Records Bureau states that on average, 10 Dalit women and girls are reported raped every day in India.
