The Lahore police has arrested a woman PTI activist who physically attacked renowned stage actor Tahir Anjum outside the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday and tore off his clothes.
The law enforcement registered a case against Aneela Riaz and her unidentified accomplices on the complaint of Tahir Anjum following the incident. Police later arrested Aneela Riaz.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when Anjum was reportedly passing by the hunger strike camp of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) outside the Punjab Assembly, according to the FIR.
According to reports, Riaz, who was participating in the PTI protest, assaulted Anjum, allegedly due to his activities related to PTI Founder Imran Khan and the videos he reportedly posted on social media criticizing the party. She said the comedian was making footage of the PTI protest camp.
Tahir Anjum, who was in a car at the time of the attack, was violently beaten up by Riaz, who also tore his clothes during the altercation.
On Wednesday, Anjum confirmed the incident in a conversation with Samaa TV, stating that he was attacked while passing by the PTI camp. He mentioned that he planned to consult with the leadership of the PML-N, of which he is the cultural wing president, before deciding on any further legal actions. "I will take the final decision to file a case after consulting the leadership," he added.
The police have filed an FIR against Riaz and her unidentified accomplices, and they are planning to pursue additional legal steps against her. The incident has brought significant attention to the ongoing tensions and political activism surrounding the PTI hunger strike camp.
