The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for a severe thunderstorm in Karachi, expected to persist from August 3 to 5.
The city has already witnessed a significant impact from the ongoing monsoon system, with various areas experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall.
On Wednesday night, clouds gathered over Karachi, resulting in continuous rainfall across numerous parts of the city. The Old City area, in particular, was hit with persistent rain from midnight into the morning.
This downpour led to water accumulation in several low-lying areas, including Gurmandir (opposite Gul Rana Center) and Kashmir Road.
According to the latest statistics from the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall was recorded at DHA Phase 2 with 13 mm. Other significant readings included 11.1 mm at Old Airport, 11 mm at Quaidabad, and 6.2 mm at Sarjani.
Additional measurements include 6 mm at PAF Faisal Base, 5.5 mm in Kemari, and 5.3 mm in Gadap Town. Lower rainfall was observed at Jinnah Terminal (4 mm), Korangi (3.2 mm), Hasan Square (3 mm), and other areas.
The weather on Thursday saw the city bathed in strong southwesterly winds at 31 km/h. The general conditions were cloudy with intermittent sunshine, providing a brief respite from the intense heat. The temperature dropped to a maximum of 31.6 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels at 82 percent.
Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department has alerted residents to a fresh wave of monsoon activity beginning today, August 2.
This new system will influence areas including Rajasthan (India) and Sindh, with a potential for rain and thunderstorms in Tharparkar, Badin, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Tandwalhiyar. Rural Sindh, including Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Qamber Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, Umarkot, Nowshahr Feroze, Ghotki, and Sakharsim, may also experience significant rainfall with strong winds and thunder from August 3 to August 6.
