The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) official negated the Cable News Network (CNN) news about a Pakistani man Asif Merchant with alleged ties to the Iranian government seeking to carry out political assassinations in the states.
CNN quoting unsealed court documents of the Justice Department reported has charged a Pakistani man. The case prompted the US government to increase security for former President Donald Trump and other officials.
As per experts despite the fact, that there was no evidence found Asif Merhcnat and CNN's spinning the news against the Pakistani national for their vested interests was a perfect example of Yellow journalism.
On the other hand, in its news, CNN quoted an FBI official that FBI investigators have not found evidence that Merchant had any connection to the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania.
FBI investigators believe that Trump and other current and former US government officials were the intended targets of the plot, a US official briefed on the matter said.
Who is Asif Merchant?
Asif Merchant, 46, is accused of traveling to New York City and working with a hit man to carry out the assassinations in late August or early September, according to charges filed by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn, New York.
Merchant was arrested on July 12 while preparing to leave the United States, prosecutors said, shortly after he met with purported hitmen who he believed would carry the murders but were undercover law enforcement officers. He is in federal custody.
There was no evidence found by the FBI against the Asif Merchant.
White House says no evidence found against Asif Merchant
White House spokesperson also said that no evidence was found against Asif Merchant and the investigation has been going on as the accused in federal custody.
Merchant planned to leave the country before the assassination, prosecutors say, but was arrested before he could go.
