The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) have reached an agreement to replace the current Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tesori.
According to sources, the PML-N plans to appoint a new governor from within its own ranks, with Provincial President Bashir Memon emerging as a strong contender for the role. Consultations between the two parties are ongoing to finalize Memon's appointment.
However, the PPP has raised some reservations about Memon’s nomination, and alternative candidates for the governorship are also being considered. Attaullah Tarar, a PML-N spokesperson, mentioned that he is unaware of the specific details regarding these discussions.
The change in leadership is anticipated to occur in the coming days, reflecting ongoing negotiations and party dynamics in Pakistani politics.
MQM reacts to Sindh governor’s replacement
The planned change of Sindh’s governor has sparked confusion and concern within the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Sources within the MQM said that the party was caught off guard by the news of the governor’s replacement, which they learned about through television reports rather than official channels.
The MQM has expressed their surprise, stating that they were not consulted or informed about the decision in advance. They believe that key decisions, such as the change of a governor, should involve discussions and consultations with coalition partners, including PML-N allies.
In related developments, Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool accompanied the Prime Minister during a visit to Karachi today. The MQM is emphasizing the need for greater transparency and consultation regarding important political decisions, particularly those affecting the governance of Sindh.
