The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) requesting a reduction in the per-unit price of electricity for the month of July.
The CPPA has proposed a reduction of 31 paisas per unit under the fuel price adjustment mechanism.
This potential reduction is expected to be applied to electricity bills for one month, providing slight relief to consumers. The CPPA cited fluctuations in fuel prices during July as the reason behind the proposed reduction.
Nepra has scheduled a hearing to review the CPPA's request on August 28. The decision made by the regulatory authority will determine whether consumers will benefit from the reduced tariff for the specified period.
If approved, this reduction could ease some of the financial burden on consumers, especially in light of the rising costs of living and energy prices in recent months. However, the final decision rests with Nepra, pending the outcome of the hearing.
