Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan are anticipated to decrease for the fourth consecutive time starting September 15, potentially falling by about Rs10 per liter.
According to media reports, international prices for petrol and high-speed diesel have dropped by approximately $5 per barrel over the past fortnight. Given the recent exchange rate and current tax rates, this could lead to a reduction of Rs10 to Rs11 per liter.
However, there is speculation that the government might raise the petroleum levy by Rs5 per liter to address a revenue shortfall of Rs100 billion reported by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for the first two months of the fiscal year. If this levy increase is implemented, the price reduction is expected to be reduced to around Rs5 to Rs6 per liter.
The final adjustment in fuel prices will depend on the federal government's decision regarding the petroleum levy and the final calculations of exchange rates and tax rates.
