Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has faced a tax shortfall of over Rs100 billion in March 2025, as it managed to collect only Rs1,100 billion in taxes against the target of Rs1,220 billion.
According to provisional data, FBR paid Rs34 billion in tax refunds in March alone, while a total of Rs384 billion has been refunded over the past nine months.
For the first nine months of the current fiscal year, FBR collected Rs8,444 billion, falling short of the Rs9,167 billion target by over Rs725 billion.
The revised annual revenue target for the ongoing fiscal year stands at Rs12,334 billion, down from the original target of Rs12,970 billion. The revenue shortfall poses significant challenges to meeting the fiscal year’s tax collection goals.
