On the 16th day of the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War, Pakistan's armed forces reported substantial progress across multiple fronts. The Indian Army's casualties reportedly reached 6,889, with significant losses in tanks and armored vehicles.
In the Sialkot and Jammu sectors, Pakistan's military, particularly the Air Force, repelled Indian attacks and destroyed 36 enemy tanks. Pakistani forces pushed Indian troops back 12 miles from Wagah, Attari, and Khemkaran, capturing a 6-mile stretch of Indian territory.
The Pakistan Army gained full control of the Rajouri sector, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Navy established complete dominance over the Arabian Sea, effectively halting Indian naval movements.
In aerial combat, Pakistan Air Force's Sabre jets shot down two Indian Hunter aircraft over the Beas River. PAF fighter planes also destroyed 20 Indian tanks, multiple military vehicles, and gun positions across various sectors including Sialkot, Jammu, Wagah, Attari, Khemkaran, and Gadro.
The day also saw a surge in civilian support for the war effort, with Pakistanis from all walks of life making substantial contributions to the Defense Fund.
