The rampant profiteering by unscrupulous sellers has led to a significant spike in vegetable prices in Faisalabad, leaving citizens frustrated.
The official price for potatoes is set Rs80 per kilogram, yet they are being sold in markets for as high as Rs150 per kg. Similarly, peas that should cost Rs250 are now priced around Rs400, while ginger has surged from an official rate of Rs900 to an alarming Rs1,200 per kilogram.
Local shopkeepers have claimed that they cannot source vegetables at the listed prices, attributing the discrepancy to supply shortages in the market.
Despite these challenges, the district administration said that fines had been imposed exceeding Rs 19 million on around 2,600 profiteers,
The administration had vowed to continue further actions.
