England captain Ben Stokes was looking to return for the second Test against Pakistan, slating to happen in Multan from Tuesday.
According to details, the 33-year-old all-rounder missed the first Test, which England won decisively under the leadership of stand-in skipper Ollie Pope by an innings and 47 runs.
An England team spokesman confirmed that Stokes participated in practice on Sunday, where he showcased promising signs of recovery. “Ben bowled about four overs at full pace today. He has done some high-intensity running and had a 45-minute batting session in the nets,” the spokesman reported.
Stokes sustained a left hamstring tear during The Hundred domestic competition in August, sidelining him from England's recent 2-1 home series victory over Sri Lanka. If declared fit, he is expected to replace Chris Woakes in the lineup.
The England management typically names their squad two days prior to the Test, but they will delay the announcement until Monday, pending the final assessment of Stokes's fitness.
Looking ahead, the third and final Test is scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi on October 24, adding further excitement to the ongoing series.
