This means that they are valid for all transactions in Pakistan, regardless of their colour (blue or green).
The central bank's clarification comes amid reports by social media users that Rs75 banknotes were not being accepted by retailers and shopkeepers, who mistakenly believed that they were not valid for public use.
The SBP stated that all banknotes issued by the SBP, including commemorative notes, are legal tender in Pakistan for the amount expressed on them.
The central bank also clarified that the Rs75 banknotes issued on August 14, 2022, to commemorate 75 years of Pakistan's independence and the Rs75 banknotes issued on July 4, 2023, to mark 75 years of the SBP's inception, are both legal tender across Pakistan.
It emphasized that these banknotes are equally eligible to perform the function of medium of exchange, meaning that they can be used to settle both private and public obligations.
Additionally, all commercial banks must issue and accept these banknotes from the public.
