Last year, Saudi Arabia experienced a significant increase in the number of twin births, with a total of 16,160 sets of twins born in 2022, according to data released by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).
The report provides insights into birth statistics from various regions of Saudi Arabia, revealing a total of 417,155 births during the year.
The capital city, Riyadh, led the way with 96,619 births including 92,253 single births, 4,140 twin births, and an additional 226 instances of triplets or more.
The Mecca region closely followed with a total of 82,135 births including 78,881 single births, 3,092 twin births, and 162 classified as triplets or more.
Similar trends in birth data were observed in other regions such as Medina with 31,894 births, the southern Asir region with 32,008 births, and the Jazan region with 21,498 births.
These figures encompassed single births, twin births, and births of triplets or more.
The Al Qassim and Tabuk regions reported a total of 19,714 and 15,658 births respectively, with some being twin births and births of triplets or more.
Several other regions, including Baha, Najran, Hail, Al Jouf, and the Northern Border region, also contributed to the overall birth count, each with their share of twin births and births of triplets or more.
