The federal government has utilised only 20 percent of the allocated Rs1.1 trillion development budget in the first seven months of the ongoing fiscal year.
According to the report, Rs220.19 billion was spent on development projects between July and January, despite an approved release of Rs 629 billion.
The documents further show that Rs48.64 billion was sanctioned for the development schemes of members of parliament.
However, only Rs 8.2 million was utilised over the seven months, reflecting a stark underutilization of funds.
Meanwhile, over Rs 59 billion was spent on development projects in provinces and special areas. In sector-wise spending, the following allocations were made:
- Water resources projects received more than Rs 44 billion
- National Highway Authority (NHA) projects saw an expenditure of over Rs 43 billion
- Higher Education Commission (HEC) projects utilized over Rs 13 billion
- Railway Division projects were allocated over Rs 12 billion
- Power Division projects saw a spending of over Rs 5 billion
