Former US President Donald Trump has ruled out any deportation action against Prince Harry despite an ongoing case regarding his immigration records but took a swipe at Meghan Markle, calling her ‘terrible’.
Speaking to the New York Post on Friday, Trump dismissed speculation about the Duke of Sussex being forced to leave the United States. "I don't want to do that, I'll leave him alone," he said.
However, the former president was less charitable towards Meghan Markle, stating: "He's got enough problems with his wife. She's terrible."
The comments come amid a legal battle initiated by The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, which is seeking access to Prince Harry’s visa records.
The lawsuit challenges whether the Duke received special treatment from the Biden administration, particularly in light of his revelations in his memoir Spare, where he admitted to past drug use, including cocaine and cannabis.
The case is being pursued against the Department of Homeland Security in Washington DC, with the Foundation arguing that immigration laws should be applied equally.
Under US law, visa applicants can be deemed inadmissible if they have a history of drug use, although discretionary waivers are sometimes granted.
Prince Harry, who stepped down as a working royal and relocated to the United States with Meghan Markle in 2020, has not publicly responded to Trump’s remarks. The latest controversy follows his recent appearance in Vancouver, Canada, where he launched the 2025 Invictus Games.
