Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to make all of its parking sites free of charge shortly.
Announcing the decision, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab stated that no parking fee will be collected from KMC parking sites, emphasizing that the move has been made in the public interest.
He further highlighted that KMC's financial position has significantly improved, with over Rs 2 billion currently in its accounts. He added that KMC does not need Rs 40-50 million in revenue from parking fees.
To ensure transparency, a notification will be issued to remove parking fees, and strict action will be taken against those illegally collecting money under KMC’s name.
Mayor Wahab specified that parking fees will no longer be charged at 46 parking sites across 106 main roads in Karachi. However, the 25 town administrations and six cantonment boards will continue to charge parking fees as per their policies.
He reiterated that KMC’s financial stability has enabled the administration to prioritize public convenience, ensuring better facilities for Karachi’s residents.
