A convoy transporting aid to Kurram has once again come under attack, with intense gunfire reported and vehicles being looted.
According to the district administration, a convoy of 130 vehicles, including five oil tankers, departed from Tall.
The convoy was attacked again in Lower Kurram, and gunfire is still ongoing. However, the administration has ordered the convoy to continue moving forward.
Official sources reported that the attack took place at Char Khel in Lower Kurram, where the vehicles were subsequently looted.
The sources added that those looting the convoy were fired upon. A total of 40 vehicles were heading from Tall to Parachinar at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, the process of demolishing bunkers in Kurram is also underway.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, 183 bunkers have been dismantled so far, and full implementation of the peace agreement will be ensured. He also confirmed that security forces have been dispatched to Char Khel following reports of the attack on the convoy.
On the other hand, police have reported additional gunfire targeting the convoy in the Uchit and Dad Qamar areas of Lower Kurram. A convoy of 64 vehicles had departed from Tall, and there are concerns of casualties due to the attack. Initial reports indicate that one driver has been injured.
According to the Assistant Commissioner, none of the 113 vehicles in the convoy have returned to Tall. The administration stated that the injured driver, Akram Khan, has been shifted to Alizai Hospital. He is reported to be from Peshawar.
The injured driver recounted that his truck, loaded with medicines, was looted in Char Khel. He added that the police instructed him to leave his vehicle in the area before sending him to the hospital, after which armed men started looting his truck. The driver further stated that gunfire blew out his truck’s tire, and he was wounded in the attack.
Meanwhile, the district administration has assured that the vehicles in the convoy are safe and continuing towards their destination. Authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt the peace.
