The Senate Finance Committee has approved an increase in the salaries of senators, raising their monthly pay to Rs519,000, effective from January 1.
However, the salaries of the Senate chairman and deputy chairman will remain unchanged.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Senate Finance Committee held at Parliament House, chaired by Acting Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasir. Several committee members, including Saleem Mandviwala, Shahadat Awan, and Senator Liaquat Khan, were in attendance. However, opposition leader Shibli Faraz and Maulana Attaur Rehman were absent.
Following the meeting, Senator Saleem Mandviwala confirmed the salary hike while speaking to Samaa TV. He stated that the increase was approved in line with the National Assembly’s decision, ensuring that senators' salaries would now be on par with those of National Assembly members.
"The salary increase has been approved under the act passed by parliament, and it will be implemented from January 1," Mandviwala said.
