An Indian national, Thomas Gabriel Perera a resident of Kerala's Thumba was allegedly shot dead by Jordanian soldiers while attempting to cross into Israel illegally, sources confirmed. The incident reportedly occurred on February 10.
The Indian Embassy in Jordan acknowledged the tragic event and stated that it is in contact with the deceased's family, working closely with Jordanian authorities for the repatriation of his mortal remains.
Perera, 47, had traveled to Jordan on a visitor visa before attempting the illegal crossing. His relative, Edison, also tried to enter Israel but survived after being shot. Edison was later repatriated to India following medical treatment.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with escalating violence in the West Bank and the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
