Netflix’s gothic mystery series Wednesday is already sparking speculation about a third season, even before Season 2 has hit the platform.
In a recent interview, lead actress and executive producer Jenna Ortega shared insights about the show’s future, revealing that the creative team is already brainstorming ideas for another instalment.
While promoting her upcoming A24 film Death of a Unicorn, Ortega spoke with Collider about the current state of Wednesday Season 2. She confirmed that post-production is still underway and that she recently worked on ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement), indicating that the series is nearing completion.
"We haven’t gotten an official thumbs up or anything like that, but I know that the writers are… With a show like that, you kind of want to get ahead of the game," Ortega shared. "So, I think that they’re kind of messing around and throwing out ideas."
Although Netflix has yet to confirm a third season, the show’s overwhelming success makes a renewal highly likely. Wednesday shattered streaming records upon its debut, even surpassing Stranger Things Season 4 in its first week. Season 2 was greenlit just three months after the first season premiered, and with ongoing audience demand, a third season seems inevitable.
The increased production budget and the addition of high-profile stars like Lady Gaga suggest that Netflix is heavily investing in the series. If Season 2 delivers strong viewership, an official renewal could be announced soon.
When will ‘Wednesday’ season 2 premiere?
Netflix has not confirmed a release date for Season 2, but Ortega’s comments indicate that post-production is still in progress. Given the timeline, fans can expect the series to return later this year, possibly around the same time as Season 1.
With Ortega taking on an executive producer role, Season 2 promises to be darker and more horror-driven, even featuring a slasher-inspired episode. If Season 3 moves forward, it could explore deeper mysteries, including the unresolved Tyler Hyde storyline, ensuring that Wednesday continues to captivate audiences for years to come.
