Actor Danish Taimoor has come under criticism following his remarks on the right of men to have four marriages, a statement that many social media users deemed unnecessary and inappropriate.
The controversy arose during a special Ramazan transmission on a local television channel, where Taimoor was co-hosting alongside former news anchor Rabia Anam.
His wife, actress Ayeza Khan, was also present on the show.
During the discussion, Taimoor stated that men are permitted to marry up to four times, adding: “The permission to men for four marriages has been granted, but I am not doing it yet, that’s a different story.” He further clarified: “I won’t do it because I love and respect my wife, even though I still have the right.”
The statement did not sit well with audiences, with many criticizing the actor for what they saw as an insensitive and self-centered remark. Social media users argued that while Islam allows multiple marriages under specific conditions, these are often overlooked in such discussions.
A user commented: “Men always remember their right to marry four times, but they conveniently forget the conditions.”
Others pointed out that discussing such matters in the presence of his wife on national television was inappropriate. One viewer remarked: “Why even mention this when your wife is sitting right there? This was uncomfortable to watch.”
While Taimoor has not yet responded to the backlash, the debate continues across social media platforms, with many urging public figures to exercise more caution in discussing such topics.
Danish Taimoor and Ayeza Khan, considered one of Pakistan’s most celebrated celebrity couples, have been married since 2014 and share two children. Their relationship has often been praised for its stability and mutual respect, making Taimoor’s recent remarks all the more contentious.
